{"id":36853,"date":"2021-08-11T10:42:06","date_gmt":"2021-08-11T10:42:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/council.science\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=36853"},"modified":"2025-04-24T09:36:41","modified_gmt":"2025-04-24T09:36:41","slug":"chiu","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/council.science\/profile\/chiu\/","title":{"rendered":"Mei-Hung Chiu"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Involvement at the ISC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ordinary Member of the ISC Governing Board (2021-2024)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vice-Chair of the ISC Standing Committee for Outreach and Engagement (2022-2025)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ISC Foundation Fellow (June 2022)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Background<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Mei-Hung Chiu is a Distinguished Professor at the Graduate Institute of Science Education, National Taiwan Normal University. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chiu was the Chair of Committee on Chemistry Education (2012-15) and is an elected member of the Bureau and Executive Committee of International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) since 2016 (2016-2019; 2020-2023). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She published over 100 articles on conceptual understanding of scientific phenomenon, modeling-based competence, facial recognition system and augmented reality in science education, in international and national well-known journals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chiu was a recipient of the Distinguished Contribution to Chemical Education Award from the Federation of Asian Chemical Societies in 2009, the Distinguished Contribution to Science Education Award from Eastern-Asian Science Education Association in 2016, and the Distinguished Woman in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering from IUPAC in 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was elected as the President of the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (2016-2017) based in the USA, the first president from a non-English speaking country.
