{"id":55675,"date":"2022-11-29T12:42:27","date_gmt":"2022-11-29T12:42:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/council.science\/?page_id=55675"},"modified":"2025-05-15T10:14:31","modified_gmt":"2025-05-15T10:14:31","slug":"partnerships","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/council.science\/partnerships\/","title":{"rendered":"Partnerships and sponsorships"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The ISC and the United Nations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The ISC has established&nbsp;memoranda of understanding with several elements and bodies of the United Nations, with a view to strengthening the use of scientific evidence in policy and public action on the most pressing issues facing societies today:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/current\/news\/fao-and-the-international-science-council-join-forces\/\">Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/news\/global-foresight-report\/\">United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/current\/news\/isc-commits-to-enhanced-collaboration-with-un-habitat-and-undrr-on-urban-health-and-wellbeing-and-disaster-risk-reduction\/\">United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/current\/news\/isc-unep-mou-science-environmental-policy\/\">United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UNESCO\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/current\/news\/new-agreement-mobilizes-global-science-for-the-ocean-decade\/\">Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/current\/news\/isc-commits-to-enhanced-collaboration-with-un-habitat-and-undrr-on-urban-health-and-wellbeing-and-disaster-risk-reduction\/\">United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN Habitat)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/current\/blog\/unu-isc-agreement-strengthen-academic-collaboration\/\">United Nations University (UNU)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/current\/press\/isc-and-who-sign-new-agreement\/\">World Health Organization (WHO)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the Council collaborates actively with:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International Telecommunication Union (ITU)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>World Meteorological Organization (WMO)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Co-sponsors of Affiliated Bodies&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The ISC co-sponsors a number of\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/members\/affiliated-bodies\/\">science initiatives or programmes<\/a>, and lends its support to joint initiatives that have multiple sponsors and\/or partners. As such, the Council has agreements with many different organizations which act as co-sponsors, partners or hosts for the initiatives concerned.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Funding partners&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Significant <a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/about-us\/governance\/funding\/\">financial resources<\/a> are raised in the form of grants from governments and other organizations, including some of our UN or other collaborating partners, for specific projects or areas of activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other collaborating&nbsp;partners&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The ISC collaborates with several international science organizations including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.belmontforum.org\/\">Belmont Forum<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/globalresearchcouncil.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Global Research Council<\/a>\u202f(GRC)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.interacademies.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">InterAcademy Partnership<\/a>\u202f(IAP)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/internationalsciencecouncil.lightning.force.com\/lightning\/r\/0013X00003nFcjUQAS\/view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences<\/a>\u202f(CIPSH)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wfeo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Federation of Engineering Organizations\u202f<\/a>(WFEO), with which the ISC&nbsp;co-chairs the\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/science-technology-major-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scientific and Technological Community Major Group at the United Nations<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scholarsatrisk.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scholars at Risk<\/a>\u202f(SAR), on issues on\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/our-work\/freedom-and-responsibilities-in-science\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">freedom and responsibilities in science<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sciences Po, in the framework of the <a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/our-work\/centre-for-science-futures\/\">ISC Centre for Science Futures<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Partner with us<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Council invites networks and organizations from across the science-policy system, including intergovernmental organizations, funders, and scientific networks to work together to advance science as a global good.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are interested in partnering with the ISC, please write to\u202f<a href=\"mailto:secretariat@council.science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">secretariat@council.science<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ISC Due Diligence Policy&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The ISC strives to ensure that it engages and does business only with organizations and bodies that share ISC values and respect the highest standards of social, environmental and corporate responsibility. The ISC will only enter into sponsorship or partnership arrangements with such organizations following an assessment of the potential benefits and risks of engagement to the ISC, its vision and mission, and society at large.
