We welcome contributions that bring fresh insights into key scientific debates, science-policy issues, and the broader research landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All blog content is available for republishing under a <strong>Creative Commons CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license<\/strong> &#8211; please keep this in mind when submitting a piece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What makes for a suitable blog post?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The ISC blogs feature articles that are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Timely<\/strong> \u2013 addressing recent research, emerging scientific debates, or policy developments;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Relevant to the global scientific community<\/strong> \u2013 engaging with science-policy discussions, major conferences, or international research agendas;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Substantive and evidence-based<\/strong> \u2013 providing clear arguments, analysis, or insights linked to scientific research;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aligned with ISC priorities<\/strong> \u2013 connecting to ISC\u2019s projects, programs, or strategic themes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The ISC does not publish:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Institutional announcements<\/strong> \u2013 including organizational updates, leadership changes, or internal milestones;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Promotional content<\/strong> \u2013 articles intended to market products, services, or specific initiatives;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Personal profiles<\/strong> \u2013 content focused on individuals rather than broader scientific or policy issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Editorial guidelines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Length<\/strong>: Submissions should be between <strong>300 and 1,000 words<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Language and Style: <\/strong>To ensure clarity and accessibility for a global audience, contributors should:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use <strong>clear and precise language<\/strong>, minimizing technical jargon;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Follow <strong>British English<\/strong> spelling and grammar (-ize endings preferred);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write in the <strong>active voice<\/strong> and avoid unnecessary complexity;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refrain from using clich\u00e9s, wordplay, or idiomatic expressions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A strong blog post should include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Introduction<\/strong> \u2013 Clearly states the topic and its relevance to the scientific community;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Main body<\/strong> \u2013 Develops the argument or perspective with supporting evidence and analysis;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Conclusion<\/strong> \u2013 Summarizes key insights and may pose questions for further reflection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Title<\/strong>: Titles should accurately reflect the content and engage the reader. Final titles are determined in consultation with the ISC editorial team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Acronyms: <\/strong>Must be spelled out on first reference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>References: <\/strong>Hyperlinked sources are preferred over in-text citations; alternatively, a \u2018Further Reading\u2019 section can be included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Non-Sexist Language<\/strong>: Contributors are encouraged to use gender-inclusive terminology (e.g., \u201chumanity\u201d instead of \u201cmankind\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Submitting a blog post<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To propose a blog post, please contact <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/profile\/lea-nacache\/\">L\u00e9a Nacache<\/a>, Communications Officer<\/strong>, at lea.nacache@council.science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Submissions should include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <strong>clear email subject<\/strong>, including &#8220;Submission to ISC blogs&#8221;;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>brief summary<\/strong> (2\u20133 sentences) outlining the proposed blog post and its relevance to ISC\u2019s audience, included in the email body;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>full draft of the proposed blog post<\/strong> (300\u20131,000 words) attached as a Word document (shared with editing rights);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>high-quality image<\/strong> to accompany the post (with appropriate credits and permissions);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A brief <strong>author bio<\/strong> (1\u20132 sentences).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Review and editorial process<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Submissions will be reviewed by the ISC editorial team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note that submitting an article does not guarantee publication<\/strong>. All submissions will be evaluated based on their relevance, clarity, and alignment with ISC\u2019s editorial guidelines and priorities. Publication is also subject to thematic relevance within the ISC calendar and available editorial space, which means accepted articles may not be published immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If necessary, contributors may be invited to revise their article based on editorial feedback. This may include clarifying arguments, improving readability, or aligning the content with ISC\u2019s tone and style. The ISC team may also make minor edits for grammar, style, and consistency while preserving the author\u2019s voice and intent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once revisions are complete, the final version will undergo a final review by ISC officers.
