The world is at a critical juncture where political will and collective effort are imperative if we are to build a resilient, just and sustainable future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first initiative of its kind since the <a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/about-us\/fellows\/\">ISC Fellowship<\/a> was established last year, ISC Fellows have prepared a <strong>joint statement<\/strong> that articulates the urgent need for an <strong>integrated, collaborative approach<\/strong> to meeting our global challenges; for <strong>capacity-building<\/strong> where it is most needed; and for <strong>strengthening the science-policy-society interface<\/strong> so that the most appropriate knowledge can be applied more effectively to the huge range of challenges we face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:20%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"634\" height=\"901\" src=\"https:\/\/council.science\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/image-2-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-66669\" srcset=\"https:\/\/council.science\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/image-2-1.png 634w, https:\/\/council.science\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/image-2-1-360x512.png 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 634px) 100vw, 634px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:40%\">\n<p><strong>Rescuing and integrating the Global Agenda: Harnessing Science and Technology more effectively<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Position paper for the 2023 High-Level Political Forum, prepared by the ISC Fellows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<a href=https:\/\/council.science\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/ISC-Fellowship-Statement-A5-2.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><button>Read now<\/button><\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:15%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Released today, the statement builds on <a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/science-technology-major-group\/\">Scientific and Technological Community Major Group<\/a> statements that have been prepared with the ISC and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) Members in previous years, and will be presented to the HLPF 2023 at a <a href=\"https:\/\/council.science\/events\/hlpf-2023\/\">Special Event on SDG Synergies<\/a> held on 16 July by the Chair of the Fellows\u2019 Writing Group, Nebojsa Nakicenovic (\u201cNaki\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Naki states, \u201c<em>Recognized for our commitment to bringing science to society, the ISC Fellows have rallied together to chart&nbsp;actionable&nbsp;and impactful paths for revitalizing the 2030 Agenda. We emphasize the urgent need to integrate SDGs and global frameworks, foster inclusivity and capacity-building, and strengthen the science-policy-society interface across all levels. This calls for transformative approaches to accessing, funding, and producing knowledge \u2013 business-as-usual is not an option&nbsp;as we must&nbsp;secure a sustainable future for all.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maria Ivanova, member of the Fellows\u2019 Writing Group, adds: \u201c<em>In our statement, we have endeavored to balance the stark realities&nbsp;of the&nbsp;profound and increasing challenges&nbsp;humanity&nbsp;faces&nbsp;with the hope and the potential for transformative collaboration. Typically, those most impacted by&nbsp;the rapidly&nbsp;changing world&nbsp;have limited&nbsp;capacity to navigate change,&nbsp;and&nbsp;building their resilience is crucial. Gong Ke, another member of the Fellows\u2019 Writing Group and Past President of WFEO, reinforces this point: \u201c<em>Scientists and engineers worldwide hold the power to help deliver practical solutions&nbsp;to a raft of global and seemingly intractable challenges. By collaborating with diverse scientific disciplines and key communities, we stand ready to make a meaningful impact.
