Emily Twigg is the Executive Director of the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR), a thematic committee of the International Science Council (ISC). SCOR furthers international scientific activity in all branches of ocean science, including by co-operating with national and international organizations concerned with scientific and policy aspects of ocean research and related activities. SCOR also conducts activities to build the capacity for ocean science in developing countries, and every SCOR activity includes members from developing countries. Prior to taking the helm at SCOR, Twigg served as a program officer for the Ocean Studies Board of the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. She has covered topics ranging from ocean observing, offshore wind development, fisheries, ocean pollution, carbon dioxide removal, and ecosystem restoration. She previously held positions at the U.S. National Science Foundation and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, among others. Twigg has a master’s degree in environmental science and management from the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara and a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of California, Berkeley.
