The ISC has Members and partners across the world, and is active in all regions.
In order to deepen the Council’s engagement with its Members and with individual scientists across the world, the ISC has established a number of Regional Focal Points which help build capacity of science systems and the global voice for science in the regions.
- Africa: The dialogue to establish a presence in Africa started in 2022 with the ISC’s partners, Future Africa, a pan-African organization based based in South Africa, who explored possibilities and made recommendations to the Council for consideration.
- Asia and the Pacific: The ISC Regional Focal Point for Asia and the Pacific is hosted by the Australian Academy of Science (launched in 2022)
- Latin America and the Caribbean: The ISC Regional Focal Point for Latin America and the Caribbean is hosted by the Academia Colombiana de Ciencias Exactas, Fisicas y Naturales (launched in 2021)
- Europe: The ISC European Members Group is a self-governed body hosted by the organization that chairs the Management Group, presently by the Estonian Academy of Sciences.
- Middle East: The ISC has signed a letter of intent with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of Oman to establish a Regional Focal Point in the region.
