Prof. Teketel Yohannes obtained his PhD in Physical Chemistry from Addis Ababa University (AAU), Ethiopia, in 1997. Since 1984, he has been teaching and supervising undergraduate and graduate students at AAU. With his research group and collaborators, he has extensively studied electrochemistry, spectroelectrochemistry, photovoltaic, and photoelectrochemistry of organic conducting polymer materials and has published more than 80 scientific articles in highly reputable local and international journals.
Prof. Teketel received a research fellowship from Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalization (OeAD), Austria, the Matsumae International Foundation (MIF), Japan, the International Science Programme (ISP), Sweden, the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Italy, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Netherlands, the Chinese Academy of Sciences – The World Academy of Sciences (CAS-TWAS), China, and the Training and Research in Italian Laboratories (TRIL), Italy. He was a junior and Regular Fellow of the ICTP and is a Fellow of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS).
Prof. Teketel is a Board member of the African Materials Research Society (AMRS), the founder and mastermind behind the African Network for Solar Energy (ANSOLE), and the first board member of the Joint US-Africa Materials Institute (JUAMI). He served as the Chairman of the Chemistry Department at Bahir Dar Teachers College, Addis Ababa University; Director of the Materials Science Program and Associate Dean for Graduate Programs at the College of Natural Sciences, Addis Ababa University; Director for Research and Acting Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, Addis Ababa University, and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University. Currently, he serves as the Executive Director of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences and is a member of the Global Council of the InterAcademy Partnership – Science Education Programme (IAP-SEP).
