Leonardo Teixeira DallAgnol is a professor at the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA) in Brazil and one of the leaders of the Research Group in Biodiversity, Bioprospection and Biotechnology (GB3). He teaches in the master’s programs in Health and Environment (PPGSA) and Environmental Science and Technology (PPGCTAmb), as well as in the undergraduate Biology bachelor. Has already supervised 11 master students and 36 undergraduate research students. From 2018 to 2019, he served as Dean of the International Relations Office at UFMA. He is currently serving his second term as Chair of the Marie Curie Alumni Association Brazil Chapter (2017-2018 and 2024-2026).
Prof. Dall’Agnol has a bachelor’s in biology by the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), a master in Genetics and Molecular Biology by UFPA and a PhD in Sustainable Chemistry from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He received scholarships from FAPEMA, CNPq, CAPES, the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, and from the Austrian Academy of Science (JESH Programme).
He is actively involved in outreach and citizen science, coordinating initiatives like “ABCGenes” and “LABI” to promote scientific literacy in genetics, bioinformatics and evolution and “Liquens GO!”, which combines artificial intelligence tools with traditional laboratory techniques to engage high school students in mapping lichen diversity and exploring its link to air quality. His research is mainly focused on microbial molecular biology, bioinformatics, environmental quality, with special interest to cyanobacteria and lichen. Has authored 20 scientific papers and two book chapters.
