Bernardo Mançano Fernandes is a full professor in the Department of Geography located in the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Estadual Paulista (São Paulo State University, UNESP in its Brazilian acronym). Vice President of the International Geographical Union – IGU. His main research areas include Agrarian Geography in comparative perspective and the Philosophy of Geography. In the past decade, he has represented São Paulo State University and the São Paulo Research Foundation (Fapesp) on academic missions to Australia, China, Europe, and the Americas in order to establish international research networks. He was president of the Association of Brazilian Geographers from 2002 to 2004. From 2005 to the present, he has coordinated the Brazilian Research Network on the Struggles for Spaces and Territories (REDE DATALUTA).
