Background

Richard de Grijs brings in-depth expertise in scientific publishing, research assessment and policy engagement to the ISC Forum. He has held senior editorial roles – including as Scientific Editor, Associate Editor and Deputy Editor-in-Chief – leading Q1 astronomy journals since 2006 and served on the ORCID Board (2017-2019), advancing global researcher identity infrastructure. As Deputy Director (Research) at the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (Peking U.) and Associate Dean (Global Engagement) at Macquarie U., he has long been shaping institutional research strategy, strengthening quality frameworks and leading international collaborations. Currently Executive Director of the International Space Science Institute-Beijing and a Policy Committee member of Science & Technology Australia, he works across academia, publishing and government to promote open, responsible and globally connected research ecosystems.
