Each year on 10 November, the world celebrates the World Science Day for Peace and Development – a moment to reaffirm the vital role of science in advancing peace, sustainable development, and the wellbeing of all.
The idea for the Day emerged from the 1999 World Conference on Science in Budapest, co-organized by the long-standing partners UNESCO and ISC’s predecessor the International Council for Science (ICSU) with the aim of reinforcing the commitments set out in the Declaration on Science and the Use of Scientific Knowledge.
UNESCO officially proclaimed the Day in 2001. Since then, it has catalyzed global initiatives, programmes, and funding to strengthen science as a cornerstone of progress.
For the ISC, this Day reflects our enduring commitment to science as a global public good, and to the responsibility of the scientific community to engage with society in shaping a more just, sustainable, and peaceful future.
We invite all ISC Members, ISC Fellows and partners to join the global campaign by organizing events, dialogues, and activities to mark World Science Day 2025.
In an age of polarization and global challenges, standing up for open, inclusive, and ethical science is a powerful statement. Be part of a movement that promotes science as a tool for peace, justice, and sustainable development.

ISC Members, ISC Fellows and partners are encouraged to submit details of their planned activities via the form below as soon as possible. Please feel invited to log your event even if some logistical elements are not yet confirmed. You can add more information to your entry at any time.
Participation does not require large-scale events. Initiatives may range from symposia, public lectures, classroom discussions to online dialogues, film screenings, art-science performances, pub quizzes, podcasts or lab visits. Both small and large initiatives are welcome.
All events and activities registered via the ISC will be displayed on the ISC’s map of activities around the Day, enabling people around the world to access and participate in the events.
