The Georgian Academy of Sciences has been a member since 1992.
The Georgian National Academy of Sciences, successor to the Georgian Academy of Sciences, was established in February 1941. The founding of the Georgian Academy of Sciences is an event of great significance in the history of Georgia, a landmark in the development of the Georgian culture, crowning the previous major achievements of our nation. The direct predecessors of the Academy were the Georgian branch of the All-Union Academy of Sciences and the Tbilisi State University, where a number of research institutions and scientific centers were created in the 20s and 30s of the past century. The founder members of the Academy were the professors invited by Ivane Javakhishvili to the Tbilisi University.
The Georgian National Academy of Sciences coordinates scientific researchers in Georgia and develops relationship with up to 20 Academies of foreign countries and other scientific centers. It is a scientific Adviser to the Georgian Government. The structure of the Academy is defined by the Statute of the Academy.
GNAS consists of 66 Full Members (Academicians), 25 Corresponding Members, 10 Holders of a Fellowship, 3 Honorary Academicians & Foreign Honorary Members, up to 80 Foreign Members of the Academy.
The structural subdivision of the Academy is the scientific department where all fields of science connected with each other are combined. Currently, 9 scientific departments work in the Presidium of GNAS.
«Bulletin of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences» is an Edition of the «Georgian National Academy of Sciences» that publishes original works in various fields of science and technologies: Mathematics and physical sciences, geology and chemical sciences, biology and medical sciences, engineering and applied sciences, environmental protection and agricultural sciences, humanities and social sciences.
The «Bulletin of the Georgian Academy of Sciences» is (since 2007) a new series of the «Bulletin of the Georgian Academy of Sciences» (founded in 1940).
The Journal also accepts for publication original, high quality and reviewed studies, upon their submission by a Member of the «Georgian National Academy of Sciences».
Beginning with 2009, the Journal is issued in three volumes annually; each consecutive volume comes out at the end of April, August, and December.
